OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma City police officer was charged Friday with 16 counts including first-degree rape and sexual battery after being accused of assaulting at least eight women while on patrol.

Daniel Holtzclaw, 27, also faces charges of forcible oral sodomy and indecent exposure. Holtzclaw, a former standout football player in high school and college, was arrested Aug. 21. He remained in custody on a $5 million cash bond Friday, according to jail records.

He is accused of stopping women, who were all black and between the ages of 34 and 58, while on duty in Oklahoma City. Prosecutors allege that he raped two women and either fondled others or forced them to expose themselves, and police said there may be more victims.

I’m always amazed how much control Chris has over that shield. When Tom turns it is swinging around uncontrollably, while in Chris’ hand it stays perfectly still.

"I had a bacterial infection when I was two that turned into gangrene. People don’t believe all the things I can do. Like write. I have some of the best handwriting in my class." She put her arms together to show me how she would hold a pencil or pen.

"Are you in school?"

"Well I just finished medical school to become a medical assistant." Just then she got a phone call, swiped open the touch screen and effortlessly held the phone up to her ear. I waited patiently as she tried to work out some logistics with a family member. "That was my grandma. She’s on her way to pick me up and take me to my dance studio."

"You dance?"

"Yeah, you should come to my performance."

I told her I would absolutely love to.

You fucking go girl.

She’s a truly gorgeous dancer.

Thoughts on September Monologues

jayie-the-hufflepuff:

I thought I’d throw in my two cents about the episode. I loved it, the chance to hear new voices and see Night Vale through different eyes. And like everyone else, I’m being drowned by the guilt of having ever hated Steve Carlsberg.

But I’ve been feeling more than guilt and interest due to this episode. It was uncomfortable, at least for me, to see things from Steve’s point of view. Because we’ve always seen things from Cecil’s point of view, and he accepts all the weird and freaky and inhuman and cruel about Night Vale without question because he loves this town /so/ much. And I love seeing Night Vale that way and just loving it the way it is. And having Steve know what the VBMGA is and having all these answers I didn’t want to know and seeing the arrows in the sky, it’s fascinating, but at the same time I don’t want to know and I don’t want to ask.

I think that was Fink and Cranor’s point in a way, that we get used to things way too easily and we don’t question things enough (sort of highlighted by the recent events in Ferguson, and that makes sense. They meant to make us uncomfortable. That’s the only way to make people sit back and really think about the issues attached. And the real world certainly does need looking at and reevaluating. But this is Night Vale, a fictional place I love for it’s fictionness and it’s oddities. I’m fine with questioning the real world, but I don’t want to question Night Vale.
